Week #14 Reflection

Reflecting on this entrepreneurial journey, I realize how profoundly this course has reshaped my understanding of entrepreneurship and personal growth. Throughout the semester, I discovered that entrepreneurship isn't merely about business plans, financial metrics, or marketing strategies—it’s about resilience, innovation, humility, and unwavering curiosity. One concept that deeply resonated with me was the idea of "failing forward." Initially, failure seemed daunting and something to avoid at all costs. But through numerous case studies and reflections, I learned to embrace failure as a stepping stone to success, viewing each misstep as valuable feedback rather than an endpoint. If I had one final lecture to share, I would emphasize the critical role of passion combined with practicality. Entrepreneurship demands passion because it fuels perseverance during challenging times. However, passion alone isn't enough. It must be balanced with practical knowledge, market r...

Week #13 Reflection

Introduction This week’s study provided deep insights into the attributes and practices essential for becoming an impactful change-maker. By reviewing résumés and participating in mock interviews, alongside studying readings such as Recognizing and Shaping Opportunities , An Attitude of Gratitude , and Identifying and Exploiting the Right Entrepreneurial Activity...for You , and watching videos like Paths to an Entrepreneurial Career , Avoid the Wrong Job , and Acton Hero: Larry North , I learned to think differently about hiring, professional growth, gratitude, and how we present ourselves. These resources challenged my understanding of how to assess both others and myself in a job context—and in life. Key Information Learned One major insight was the importance of storytelling through a résumé. Ramsey’s résumé stood out because of how clearly his three years of sales experience reflected direction and ambition. It reminded me that résumés shouldn’t just list what we’ve done—the...

The core theme was the importance of courageously pursuing meaningful goals, anchored in deep commitment, despite challenges or setbacks. Disciple Leadership: The Name of the Game Introduction Great leadership isn’t about power, position, or prestige—it’s about discipleship. This week’s study materials focused on Disciple Leadership , emphasizing the importance of leading with humility, integrity, and trust. The key takeaway? True leadership isn’t about having a title; it’s about inspiring and uplifting others through example. Key Information Learned One of the most impactful concepts this week was the idea of Leadership with a Small 'L' . Instead of leadership being about control or dominance, this principle highlights that real leaders serve, listen, and guide with love. President Kim B. Clark emphasized three key traits of Christlike leadership: Lead by Example – Your actions speak louder than words. Disciples of Christ lead by living what they teach. Lead with Vision – True leaders have a clear sense of direction and purpose. They don’t just react; they inspire others toward a higher goal. Lead with Love –...

Whether in entrepreneurship, personal growth, or spiritual development, staying committed to the journey is essential. Key Information Learned One of the most impactful lessons from this week’s materials was the power of perseverance. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s talk, Good Things to Come , shared a deeply personal story about persistence and faith during difficult times. His words, “Some blessings come soon. Some come late. And some don’t come until heaven. But for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come,” resonated strongly as a reminder that success and relief often come after lon...

This week’s study materials emphasized that entrepreneurship is not just about starting a business—it’s about developing self-mastery, crafting effective strategies, and maintaining a balance between career and family. One key theme that stood out is that success in entrepreneurship is often a result of discipline, adaptability, and a deep commitment to one’s values and long-term vision. Key Information Learned One of the most impactful lessons from this week’s materials was the importance of self-mastery. The reading, Success Is Gauged by Self-Mastery , highlights that discipline and control over one’s thoughts and actions are essential for long-term success. Another crucial in...

Week #5 Reflection

Introduction The journey to finding passion and success isn’t always a straight path. The idea that love is singular or predetermined can be paralyzing, making it hard to move forward. This week’s materials challenged that mindset by emphasizing that passion is fluid and should be treated as a portfolio of interests rather than a single defining pursuit. Additionally, the entrepreneurial journey is often romanticized. Still, the reality is that most entrepreneurs are not "rock stars"—they are simply people willing to take calculated risks and work hard toward meaningful goals. Key Information Learned One of the biggest takeaways was that finding passion doesn’t come from waiting for a singular "aha" moment but rather from actively engaging with multiple interests and allowing them to align with opportunities. Randy Komisar explained that rather than fixating on "the" passion, rather on moving in a general direction—north, south, east, or west— based on p...

Week #4 Reflection

Introduction One of the most inspiring messages from this week's study materials is that success is not just about working harder—it's about   working smarter, embracing change, and pursuing what we truly love. The stories of Sharon Mays, Jeff Hawkins, Tom Kelley, and Jim Ritchie emphasize that those who step outside their comfort zone and   fearlessly embrace opportunities   are the ones who achieve real success. My biggest takeaway is that   we already have what it takes to succeed—we just need to give our dreams life   and commit to making smart decisions every step of the way. Key Information Learned A major takeaway from Sharon Mays’ journey with Baby Greens was that   we hold ourselves back more than anyone else. She explained that self-doubt and external voices telling us we’re “not ready” can be the biggest obstacles to success. Her mother’s advice— “Either do it or stop talking about it” —was a turning point for her. This reminded me that the only ...

Week #3 Reflection

Introduction The thought that resonated with me the most this week is that nothing is worth the price of losing integrity. Integrity is priceless, and no amount of money or success is worth compromising. This idea shaped my perspective as I studied the readings and videos, reminding me that true success comes from maintaining honesty and aligning my actions with my values. Without integrity, any achievement becomes hollow, no matter how impressive it may seem. Key Information Learned A powerful insight came from the article   Making a Living and a Life,   which emphasized that “success without integrity is failure.” This taught me that integrity is the cornerstone of a meaningful career and life. The video   Why Are Ethics Important?   Reinforced this idea, showing how ethical decisions create trust and foster long-term relationships. The   Top 10 Must-Haves for a Start-up   video highlighted the importance of building core values, such as transparen...

Week #2 Reflection

1/16/2025 Introduction Dream big, fail big—when we're young, our dreams know no bounds. We imagine space travel or becoming professional athletes who make a massive impact on the world. But as we grow, something changes. We stop dreaming as boldly and become paralyzed by fear. What we don’t always realize is that a childlike approach to dreaming isn’t just important for kids—it’s essential for success. If we want to grow, we have to tap back into that childlike courage to face our fears, dream big, and take that first step, even if we’re not sure where it will lead. Dreaming is crucial for a child because it helps them see who they could become. While not all dreams are realistic—for example, as a kid, I wanted more than anything to be Spider-Man, swinging around tall buildings and saving lives—those dreams still shaped me. Alongside those wild fantasies, I also had dreams that challenged me to grow and become better. I truly believe that dreaming big as a child is valuable becaus...

Week#1 Reflection

1/10/2025 Introduction You may be wondering, what’s the purpose of this blog? Put simply, it’s a space to document the lessons I learn—a personal, reflective journal that not only captures my thoughts at the moment but also serves as a powerful tool for growth and learning. This isn’t just about jotting down ideas; it’s about creating a resource that I can revisit throughout my career. By reflecting on my experiences, tracking my progress, and synthesizing key insights, this journal will help me grow both personally and professionally. It’s more than a snapshot of my thoughts—it’s a blueprint for continuous learning and improvement. Key Info Learned This week, I discovered the transformative power of keeping an Entrepreneur’s Journal and adopting a growth-oriented mindset. Jeff Sandefer highlighted how a journal acts as a “mirror,” helping us stay accountable for our decisions and track progress over time. The importance of separating "Lessons Learned" from "Lessons Not ...
